In my first-year Design Nature course at Olin College, we were tasked with creating a play experience for 4th graders inspired by the biomimicry of a specific animal. My team was assigned the penguin, and we designed a versatile game based on a penguin’s ability to keep its eggs warm. Our final product is a 3D-printed “egg” that lights up yellow when squeezed—simulating a warm, healthy egg—and turns blue when released, simulating a frozen egg. To keep the game accessible for 4th graders, we crafted simple instructions and included multiple ways to play. Additionally, we added a buzzer that sounds when the egg is dropped, making the experience more interactive and engaging.
